Extending Services to the People Who Need Them Most

Public libraries can help governments meet eGovernment and digital agendas by extending their reach and providing services to those who need them most. For example, in Romania, the Ministry of Agriculture was having trouble reaching farmers who were eligible for agricultural subsidies. So Ministry experts trained more than 1,000 librarians and 151 municipal employees to use the online subsidy application system — and between 2011 and 2013, Romanian public libraries helped more than 90,000 farmers apply for subsidies with a total value of more than $155 million.
